When traveling to France, there are a lot of great places where you should consider traveling. While almost everyone who travels to France goes to Paris, and a good amount also head down to the French Rivieria, those in the know make sure that they drop by the Mont Blanc region. Even if you aren’t planning to traverse the highest mountain in all of Europe (and a mecca for those who enjoy climbing), there are plenty of things to do in the region.

One of the major reasons why people flock to the Mont Blanc region is the skiing. During the winter, the resort town of Chamonix gives you some of the best skiing in all of Europe. You can also spend your time in Chamonix shopping and dining to your heats content. Regardless of whether you want to spend your time in the city or out in the country, the Mont Blanc region features some of the best hiking and biking trials that you will find anywhere. These options feature everything from simple trials of one or two miles, to those that can be traversed over a week or so. You can find more info on the Chamonix region by going online.

Mont Blanc is situated between the Aosta Valley of Italy and the Haute Savoie of France. The official word is the summit is on the French-Italian border. The beauty of the region is extraordinary. Visiting the area will provide a wealth of exciting things to do.

One of the most exciting things to do is take the cable car up and then back down to Chamonix. The views are brilliant, and the pictures that can be taken will last a lifetime. Transportation in the area is not a problem. Dover Boulogne Ferry is a fun method of traveling into France. Mont Blanc tunnel takes visitors under and through the mountain region. There is also mountain climbing, rock climbing, and of course skiing. The region is known as a difficult one to scale, and caution and skill should be used.

The shopping in the valley is unparalleled. The Aiguiile du Midi tourist center is where visitors can spend a few hours just taking in the mountain scenery, eating at the cafe and shopping in the gift center. If visitors go for the scenery alone, it is a win for them. The skiing, hiking, snowboarding, and shopping make Mont Blanc a premier place to visit in Europe.

Mont Blanc is one of the most stunning sights in Western Europe. Located directly on the border between France and Italy, Mont Blanc is a behemoth that serves as a getaway for many people who wish to ski, hike, or just take in the scenery. The mountain is more then 13000 feet high and there is an 11 kilometer tunnel that connects Italy and France.

You can access the mountain easily from either country. Local buses can take you to the trails or slopes depending on the time of year. From France, you will arrive at Chamonix and in Italy the closest village is Courmayeur. There are many activities to enjoy on Mont Blanc. Climbing is one of the most popular but, also the most dangerous. It is important that you have the right gear and knowledge before attempting the ascent. You can get any information you may need at local outposts at the base of the mountain or from local guides.

Mont Blanc provides incredible scenery that can be enjoyed by all. If snow sports or outdoor activities are not your cup of tea then you will enjoy the shopping and fine dining at the base of the mountain.

For a wonderful family vacation, Mont Blanc is amazing. We spent our summer hiking the gorgeous and famous Tour du Mont Blanc trails. The whole family enjoyed the mountain views on this one hundred mile trail. The entire path travels through three countries and has many rest areas for weary hikers. Definitely bring your hiking boots and some wet and cold weather clothing because the mountains can be cool even in the summer. Once you’ve finished your hike, take the family to a mountain lodge for some relaxation. Most of the lodges have beautiful rooms and are family friendly with amenities like wireless internet and television. Once you’ve chosen a lodge, you can take the cable cars for a ride and watch the Para gliders. Para gliding is very popular in Mont Blanc. Another really fun way to spend an afternoon is ice skating. There are plenty of places to ice skate in Mont Blanc and the cost is around 25 Euro for skate rental for three hours. The children really loved this part of the trip, since we don’t get to do much ice skating at home. With so many fun and interesting things to do, this trip was a family favorite.

If you’re planning a trip (business or pleasure) to Mont Blanc you may need to be aware of the statutory holidays and school breaks the country recognizes so your trip can be orchestrated around any down-time or busy time.

New Year’s Day (January 1st)

Good Friday (Varies)

Easter Monday (Varies)

Journe nationale des patriotes (Patriots’ Day, always the second-to-last Monday in May)

Fte nationale du Qubec (Qubec’s national holiday, always June 24)

Canada Day (July 1)

Labor Day (first Monday in September)

Thanksgiving (second Monday in October)

Christmas Day (December 25)

Also, keep in mind that students are off for a week-long break in November and another in March. The weeks vary depending on the region, so it’s best to check with a local resource before committing any travel plans to stone. Also of note, about 25 percent of Quebec’s workforce takes vacation the last two weeks of July; and while Mont Blanc is a winter playground the abundant other seasonal activities might be impacted by this worker hiatus.
